#1 They have increased security at the place in the past two seasons, inspecting ladies purses and now having men open their coats to reveal any under arm holsters I suppose. Most Muslim terrorist acts, if they occur at venues, are at rock concerts, outside of stadiums, things Muslims don't approve of. While of course it is possible, it is very unlikely they would attack a classical music symphony hall (no known attacks so far). Furthermore, if one had a back holster, the Hall's "inspection" isn't going to catch it. So what is the point of these irritating security changes? Really? As has been said, "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." And I would think that most attendees to classical concerts are decent people.
I love this place. The acoustics are incredible. Each performance is better than the last one I saw
The inside is well taken care of and inside the concert hall has a very nice view on the ceiling. We took in a ballet for beauty and the beast and it was outstanding. The orchestra was phenomenal and the performers and dancers were amazing. This is a nice out of the ordinary delight and will look to take in more performances.
I would encourage the hall to rethink their policies and focus on assisting attendees with their enjoyment of the program and facility rather than creating the increasingly obtrusive, haranguing, restrictive policies that I'm seeing. Otherwise, we will reconsider our season tickets for the next concert season.
So while the building, acoustics, etc., are the same, the attendant and security policies have changed and become MUCH more obtrusive. It makes going to this venue less enjoyable.
This is a great symphony concert venue. We've had season tickets for a number of years, box seats. My wife likes the music. I like seeing her get dressed up and spending time together. The hall itself is gorgeous. However I have several beefs:
#2 For one concert, we decided to forgo our usual box seats and take our young adult sons and one's girlfriend with us. So we had to switch to a different section, sitting single file along a wall. All is fine except we have a lady attendant who is like the self appointed Gestapo. Don't put your program on the flat wooden spot next to you, don't do this, don't do that. 6 or 7 times she came up to us with her nagging. I finally had enough, went to her and asked her to cut us some slack. If they had that many rules regarding those seats, then put them on an instruction card like in an airplane. It was enough! She said she was only doing what her manager told her to watch out for, but she had taken it far beyond what is reasonable. What was supposed to be a nice gathering with our family was made miserable by this one person.
Bass Hall is such a beautiful place. The ushers are very nice. Saw two shows here recently and I will never go back to seeing shows in Dallas.
The greatest concert hall, and performance center. I absolutely think this should be considered one of the finest int he country. Having traveled extensively to NYC, San Francisco and London, this is a gem! Thank you Ed and family for the unyielding support for this magnificent gift to the city of FTW.
